Seasonal Garden Center Merchandiser

The Instore Merchandiser’s “Seasonal Garden Center Merchandiser” is responsible for merchandising and maintaining the live goods in Walmart Garden Centers as part of Bergens Greenhouses merchandising program.

Working as an Independent Contractor, this position requires an individual that is service focused and has excellent communication skills, facilitating a working relationship with store leadership and associates. Merchandisers will use Garden Center best practices to create an inviting atmosphere that is detail oriented, organized and appealing to the customer, playing a vital role in achieving the goal of driving sales and improving the customer’s shopping experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Weekly store visits to assigned store(s) to unload and work all applicable live goods delivered to the store(s). Merchandisers will assist store(s) with following their specific modular layout/planogram regarding product placement in conjunction with plant care.

REQUIREMENTS: Variable schedule (based on stores assigned), including weekends, from 10 to 45+ hours per week. Previous customer service and/or retail experience preferred.

Client’s Scope of Work

Merchandiser is responsible for the presentation and maintenance of “Live Goods” in client’s garden center. The peak season usually begins mid-to the end of April and ends in mid-late summer. The work week is flexible, including weekends and holidays. You will work independently, in addition to working as a team with other ISM associates, greenhouse staff, our client’s store employees, and customers to provide customers with the best products through visual merchandising.

Merchandiser’s qualifications, responsibilities and expectations include:

· Multiple weekly store visits and product merchandising throughout assigned areas

o Must have reliable transportation to assigned store locations

o Ability to travel between stores in some areas

· Assist with creating and maintaining displays, following layouts as set in our client’s modular plans/planograms

o fill, organize and consolidate product

§ unloading deliveries from vendor carts/packaging

§ refilling displays

o ensuring product quality by rotating stock

o general care of plants

§ culling/deadheading products as time allows

· Watering all products in the garden center

· Ensuring product has the proper pricing signage displayed

· Assisting with the execution of corporate directives and programs

o executing CVP (clearance)

o seasonal promotions

· Assist with inventory and inventory adjustments when requested

o Communicate product flow, over-stock/under-stock opportunities

· Maintaining a clean store appearance and safe working environment

· Maintain a professional, cordial and customer friendly attitude

o Excellent communication skills

· Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task

o Ability to problem solve

· Taking photos of displays, store entrances, parking lots and other store areas as needed, including during promotional events

o Documentation of daily activities

o Must have a smart phone capable of taking and storing photos

§ Ability to upload photos daily

· Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products as well as in navigating the internet

o Uploading/email photos to ISM photo coordinator

o Accessing and keeping up to date with information on the ISM website and emails pertaining to contractor responsibilities

o Must have a working email address

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met in order to successfully perform the essential functions:

  • Must be able to push/pull heavy vendor carts and lift and arrange product on carts and displays
  • Must be able to lift, move, and carry pots and/or trays of plants/flowers/hanging baskets consistently throughout the day, weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, cold)
  • Must be able to walk/stand for a majority of your shift
