Tempura Matsui is a Michelin-starred (One Star) tempura omakase restaurant in Murray Hill. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable Line Cook who is eager to learn, works cleanly and efficiently, and wants to grow with a focused fine-dining team. This role includes structured training toward becoming a tempura cook over time.
Strong Plus (Preferred)Familiarity with Japanese cuisine (washoku, tempura, sushi, kaiseki) is highly preferred
Fine-dining or upscale kitchen experience is a plus (not required)
Solid knife skills and strong attention to detail
Support prep and service execution ( mise en place , plating, station support)
Begin with prep + plating for appetizers (zensai) and sashimi support
Assist with seafood/vegetable prep for tempura (portioning, station setup)
Train alongside the chef and progress step-by-step toward tempura station responsibilities
Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized work environment (labeling, storage, food safety)
Communicate clearly with the team and support teammates as needed
Open and close duties as assigned
1+ year restaurant kitchen experience preferred
Strong fundamentals in cooking techniques and food preparation
Team-oriented, hardworking, and detail-driven
Clear verbal and written communication skills
