The Opportunity

Harvard-Westlake Summer is seeking motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Marketing & Communications Interns for a 10-week summer internship. This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students with a strong interest in marketing, communications, media studies, or related fields. Preference will be given to those majoring in these areas but demonstrated interest will be considered as well.

This internship provides hands-on experience in marketing strategy, social media marketing, content creation, brand consistency, and campaign evaluation. Interns will support the development and execution of the Summer Program’s year-long social media strategy, working collaboratively with Harvard-Westlake’s Strategic Communications team. Interns will have a chance to meet with marketing and branding professionals who are a part of the wider Harvard-Westlake community.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning (Mid-May – Early June)

  • Develop a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the Summer Program’s overall marketing goals.

  • Learn about and apply the Summer Program’s brand to ensure consistency in tone, visual identity, and messaging.

  • Create a content map and yearlong content calendar that supports the strategy.

  • Review existing social media templates and assist in designing additional brand-consistent templates as needed.

Content Creation & Execution (June – July)

  • Produce high-quality digital content.

  • Post and/or schedule regular content throughout the seven-week Summer Program (June 8–June 24) and prepare content for the fall months.

  • Learn how our content manager, Sprout Social, can be used to plan, schedule, publish, and analyze social media activity.

Campaign Evaluation (June – July)

  • Track and analyze performance across social media platforms.

  • Identify key performance metrics and evaluate the effectiveness of posts and campaigns.

  • Offer recommendations to inform future marketing efforts based on collected data.

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Attend regular meetings with the Harvard-Westlake Strategic Communications Department.

  • Participate in bi-weekly sessions with local marketing, branding, and communications specialists.

  • Work collaboratively with staff across the Summer Program to gather content and ensure accurate storytelling.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student majoring in marketing, communications, media studies, or related field or strong demonstrated interest in these areas.

  • Strong writing and visual communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook.

  • Interest in branding, strategic marketing, and digital engagement

  • Ability to work independently

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Sprout Social.

  • Experience with content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • This internship is planned on-site at Harvard-Westlake School. Most of the work will be at our Upper School Campus in Studio City, but travel to our middle school campus in Holmby Hills will also be required. Interns will need to provide their own transportation between campuses.

  • Approximately 30 hours per week from mid-May through the end of July. (10 weeks total)

  • Compensation is $20 per hour.

What You Will Gain

  • Real-world experience running a multi-month social media campaign.

  • Portfolio-ready content and strategy documentation.

  • Skills in analytics, brand management, and digital marketing tools.

  • Mentorship from experienced marketing and communications professionals.

  • Insight into marketing within an educational and nonprofit setting.
