Job Description

At Associated Electric Cooperative, we're committed to providing reliable energy to the communities we serve with passion and precision. We're a tight-knit team dedicated to keeping the lights on and the energy flowing smoothly across our expansive network!

From technical to operational to professional disciplines, our team brings a wide variety of skills, talents, and expertise to the table. We believe in both dedicating ourselves to excellence and investing in your growth.

At Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. (AECI), we don’t just keep the lights on—we power possibility. Our New Madrid Power Plant plays a critical role in providing reliable electricity to more than 2.1 million, and we’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who’s ready to take on exciting challenges and grow their career with us.

This is a unique opportunity to join a great company in a rural setting where you can make a real impact, gain hands-on experience, and enjoy the benefits of small-town living with the strength of a large, stable organization behind you.

Why You’ll Love This Role

As a Mechanical Engineer at AECI, you’ll:

  • Protect and optimize assets: Ensure our plant equipment runs safely, reliably, and efficiently.

  • Lead and learn: Manage small to mid-size projects with independence, while collaborating with experienced engineers and supervisors.

  • Be hands-on: From reviewing drawings and monitoring equipment performance to supporting maintenance teams, no two days are alike.

  • See your impact: Your work supports the business goals of one of the Midwest’s most respected cooperatives.

  • Shape the future: Play a role in planning, budgeting, and long-range forecasting that influence the success of the entire plant.

Whether you’re a new graduate eager to put your degree to work, or an early-career engineer ready to grow, you’ll find opportunities here to stretch your skills and make your mark.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide engineering expertise to plant departments.

  • Manage contracts, budgets, and project scopes.

  • Develop and review material specifications and purchase materials for projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • Experience: 2+ years preferred—but we’re open to new grads with drive and potential!

  • Skills: Solid communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office.

What to Expect

  • A mix of office work and time in a coal plant environment—where you’ll experience the real heart of power production.

  • Exposure to unique challenges: high elevations, industrial equipment, and problem-solving under pressure.

  • Occasional call-outs and the need for flexibility in scheduling.

  • A strong safety culture that always comes first.

What Associated provides:

  • We are committed to rewarding talent with top pay. Your efforts will be recognized with a total compensation package that reflects your experience and contributions.
  • Plan for your future with confidence! We offer a robust 401(k) program with a generous employer match to help you build the financial future you deserve.
  • We know how important work-life integration is. Recharge with PTO and enjoy paid holidays, ensuring you have time to unwind and pursue your passions outside of work.
  • Your health matters to us! Stay covered beginning on your first day of employment with our premier healthcare plan that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family.

At Associated Electric Cooperative, all of our 700+ employees across MO/AR/OK territory play a crucial role in powering our mission! Whether you're an experienced professional or just starting your career, you'll find endless opportunities for career development here. Join us in an environment where your contribution is valued, and your career can thrive as we work together to keep the lights on!
