APF seeks a consultant with demonstrated skills in social media strategy, community storytelling, visual communications, email marketing (Mailchimp), and integrated communications planning . This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to equity-centered communications that reflect and celebrate our communities.

Scope of Work

The selected communications partner will collaborate with APF staff to design and execute an integrated strategy that translates our goals into compelling public-facing content and campaigns. Priority skills include: social media content creation, community storytelling, graphic design, email marketing via Mailchimp, and communications strategy development. Specifically, we seek support that includes:

Responsibilities include managing an editorial calendar, creating original graphics, short-form copy, and performance reporting. Experience with social media analytics tools and platform best practices is required.
  • Graphic Design: Create branded digital and print materials including social media graphics, event flyers, campaign headers, e-newsletter templates, reports, and presentations using Canva or comparable tools. Maintain visual consistency with APF’s brand identity.
  • Email Marketing (Mailchimp): Design, build, and send e-newsletters and fundraising email campaigns using Mailchimp. Manage subscriber lists, segment audiences, conduct A/B testing, and provide open/click-rate analytics and recommendations.
  • Media Relations & Earned Media: Secure local and regional coverage for APF research, initiatives, and events. Draft and distribute press advisories and releases.
  • Event Communications: Develop promotional materials and digital campaigns for key Fund events, research releases, and community programs throughout 2026.
  • Fundraising Campaign Support: Collaborate with APF Development staff to design and execute giving campaigns (including end-of-year and Giving Tuesday) that expand our funding base and deepen donor engagement. This includes copywriting, campaign graphics, email sequences, and social media promotion.
  • Thought Leadership: Position APF and its affiliates as expert voices on AANHPI community needs and philanthropy through op-eds, talking points, and digital content.
  • Rapid Response Communications: Provide timely support in response to policy changes, community crises, or emerging issues relevant to AANHPIs in the Bay Area.
  • Communications Strategy & Planning: Develop and maintain an integrated annual communications plan with goals, audience segments, key messages, channel strategies, and measurable outcomes. Provide quarterly progress check-ins with APF staff.

  • Graphic Design Proficiency: Command of Canva (or comparable tools) for consistent, on-brand visual content production.
  • Email Marketing Proficiency: Experience building and optimizing Mailchimp campaigns with measurable results.
  • Communications Strategy: Ability to develop and execute integrated, audience-centered communications plans with clear goals and metrics.
  • Nonprofit/Community Foundation Experience: Demonstrated success with donor campaigns, philanthropic messaging, or community-facing nonprofit communications.
  • AANHPI & Bay Area Community Knowledge: Cultural competency and/or lived experience with AANHPI communities in the Bay Area.
  • Creativity, Flexibility, and Collaboration: Ability to work across sectors, adapt to shifting priorities, and partner closely with a small, mission-driven staff.
