SAGA is a Modern American fine dining restaurant located on the 63rd floor of 70 Pine Street in New York City’s Financial District.

Opened in 2021 by Chef Jamal James Kent, SAGA earned two Michelin stars within its first year and has maintained that standard through a commitment to precision, discipline, and evolution. 

Today, under the leadership of Executive Chef Charlie Mitchell, SAGA continues to push forward with a clear and focused vision. 

The menu reflects a Modern American perspective, drawing from the richness of the Hudson Valley’s seasonal ingredients while embracing the diverse culinary influences that define New York City. Each tasting menu is shaped by a balance of refinement, creativity, and a strong sense of narrative.

The beverage program mirrors this philosophy, with a wine list that spans both classic and emerging regions, highlighting thoughtful, artisanal producers alongside benchmark estates. The program is designed to complement and elevate the guest experience with equal parts precision and discovery.

POSITION: KITCHEN SERVER (FOOD RUNNER)

As a Kitchen Server at SAGA, you are a critical link between the kitchen and dining room, responsible for the precise and seamless delivery of each course within a Modern American tasting menu format. Your role extends beyond transport, you are entrusted with preserving the integrity, temperature, and presentation of every dish while contributing to the rhythm and choreography of service.

This position is suited for hospitality professionals who understand that excellence lies in precision, awareness, and consistency. You will work in close collaboration with both the culinary and front-of-house teams to ensure that every dish is delivered accurately, by seat position, dietary restriction, and timing, without disruption to the guest experience.

The Kitchen Server must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate with urgency while maintaining composure. You will also engage with guests when appropriate, speaking clearly and confidently about dishes, ingredients, and allergies with a polished yet approachable presence.

SAGA operates with a “whole house” philosophy, where all departments, Pastry, Savory, Dining Room, and Facilities, function as one cohesive team. In this role, you are expected to communicate proactively and respectfully across all departments, contributing to a culture defined by discipline, accountability, and mutual support.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Previous experience in a fine dining or Michelin-starred restaurant preferred
• Demonstrates a warm, poised, and professional demeanor with both guests and colleagues
• Strong foundational knowledge of cuisine, with an eagerness to continually learn and refine understanding of ingredients, technique, and allergens
• Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in plate presentation, positioning, and accuracy of delivery
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining precision in a fast-paced environment
• Clear and confident communicator, capable of relaying information between kitchen and dining room teams efficiently
• Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
• Full schedule availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Kitchen Server is responsible for, but not limited to:

• Delivering all food with precision, ensuring correct seat position, temperature, and presentation are maintained at all times
• Verifying and executing all dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests with absolute accuracy
• Communicating clearly with the kitchen and dining room to coordinate timing and flow of courses
• Assisting in the explanation of dishes to guests when appropriate, with clarity, confidence, and professionalism
• Supporting the execution of special touches, including VIP amenities, celebratory elements, and menu augmentations
• Maintaining awareness of the dining room pace and adapting delivery timing accordingly
• Upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and readiness in all service areas
• Operating with urgency while maintaining a calm, controlled, and professional presence

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Stand and remain actively engaged for extended periods (5+ hours)
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds when required
• Move efficiently throughout the restaurant, including navigating stairs and long distances
• Work comfortably in elevated spaces, elevators, and confined areas
