The VP of Finance and Capital Markets will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and capital allocation of the organization. This position will shoulder the significant task of being a decision-maker partner to the CFO during a period of growth and change. This position will act as a focal point for Valley Strong's capital markets strategy and all associated initiatives. They will also be responsible for overseeing financial planning and risk management to ensure sustainable growth and profitability. The successful candidate will lead a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Additionally, they will engage with stakeholders to communicate financial performance and strategic initiatives effectively. Ultimately, this role aims to enhance the company's financial health and market position through informed decision-making and innovative financial solutions.
Essential Duties
Lead all strategy and execution with respect to Valley Strong’s investment portfolio and secondary market activity.
Establish Valley Strong’s capital markets strategy to accommodate future growth through acquisition and market and business line expansion.
In conjunction with ALM First (Valley Strong’s RIA), execute all trades and ensure portfolio mix remains in line with Valley Strong’s investment strategy.
With respect to all secondary market activity, recommend loan pools for sale or for purchase, inclusive of pricing always taking into account Valley Strong’s income statement and balance sheet, along with the relationship with the credit union participation partner, and/or broker.
Manage all credit union participation partnerships and broker relationships to ensure Valley Strong continues to be held in high regard in secondary market activities.
Provide reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, keep the CFO, Executive Team, and Board of Directors informed on all departmental activity.
Partner with Legal, Risk, and Credit teams to ensure cross-collaboration to drive capital market strategies successfully.
Maintain a thorough understanding of Federal and State laws and regulations related to Credit Union investments.
Develop and maintain productive relationship enterprise wide through a combination of one-on-one interaction and collaborative team-oriented activities.
Establish an effective leadership presence within the executive leadership team as a strategic business partner capable of significant impact through leadership practices and insight.
Be prepared to manage at least five, and likely more, loan sales, participations or acquisitions. Execute these transactions with the same levels of current profitability.
Build deep relationships with credit union participation partners and brokers thus maintaining Valley Strong’s reputation as best-in-class as a secondary market participant.
Communicate directly with the SVP / CFO all pertinent matters including financial reporting, and financial initiatives. Exercise professional judgment in communicating with the President / CEO, the Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee and Senior Management Team regarding all pertinent matters including financial reporting, and financial initiatives as expected.
Monitor cost control activities. Approve and implement cost control strategies on an as needed basis
Responsible for financial reporting, financial analyses, cash management, and forecasting reports on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Prepare and review credit union finance projections and manage credit union investment accounting activities.
Responsible for preparation of budgets and periodic analysis of budget variance.
Responsible for preparation and maintenance of credit union profitability programs.
Participate in determining deposit and loan rates.
All team members must comply with regulatory compliance and assigned training requirements including but not limited to BSA regulations corresponding to their specific job duties. This includes the SAFE Act. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary and other employment related actions.

Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in financial analysis and transaction/financing execution (i.e. M&A, Private Equity, Investment Banking, Commercial Banking or Corporate Development).
Proven track record of growing capital or managing large amounts of investment capital.
Extensive skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.
Considerable skill in effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skills in presenting findings and recommendations.
Ability to establish and maintain collegial and respectful working relationships with customers, co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and work effectively.
Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
